Color Run & Fun Run

by Cameron Higdon, SCA student

This year’s SCA fundraiser was a Fun Run for the elementary school and a Color Run for the middle and high school, both hosted by Boosterthon.

The Fun Run was a great time for both the students and the teachers of the elementary campus. The teachers of each class set goals and devised rewards to motivate their students to raise more donations for the run. These motivational incentives were rewards like: choosing where you sit in class, five minutes of extra recess, and a movie day. The elementary students then ran with all their friends from other classes and grades. The atmosphere was upbeat with music and an announcer giving commands. The announcer would give commands such Slow-Mo run or dancing for a lap instead of running. The students enjoyed being able to go outside and just have fun. Most, if not all, of the students ran more than the minimum 30 laps. It was a new and fun way for the elementary students to finish up the school day.

The Color Run was the fundraiser for the middle school and high school students. The students were asked to bring $50 to be allowed to run. They could also participate in the run if their grade goal was met and the whole grade could run. The Color Run was about a mile through the cross-country course. Throughout this mile the teachers set up at stations with colored chalk. The students then took off down the course only to be met by clouds of color. When they finished the race everyone’s white shirts were covered in an assortment of colors. As Cameron Rambo said, “There was purple chalk over everything and everyone.” The Color Run was a new, exciting and fun way to support our school.
