Middle School Math Team Competes

gicaa math competition

Four members of the 8th Grade Honors Algebra class–Ethan Kelley, Caroline Dougherty, Marci Scardino, and Victoria Vega–represented SCA at the inaugural GICAA Middle School State Math Competition held at Grace Fellowship in Greensboro, GA, on Monday. They competed against 12 other schools in our association.

The 2-hour competition included 6 rounds of math problems of varying degrees of difficulty that the teams had to complete together and submit to judges within a given time frame. Three rounds consisted of multi-step problems that required a correct answer in the preceding problem to used in the next step.

Ultimately, our team finished in 6th place out of 13 teams. When asked about their experience, one team member said, “It was really hard but I had a lot of fun doing it with my classmates.” A special thanks to Mr. Sheets for helping get them ready to compete. Congratulations to this year’s Middle School Math Team.
