Sherwood Christian Academy Girls Varsity basketball team lost in heart-breaking fashion in the GICAA Division 1-AA state championship in Macon on Saturday night to Covenant Academy 32-26 in overtime.

After a hard-fought game that went back and forth, freshman Joy Kendrick’s potential game winning shot went in and out for the Eagles at the buzzer in regulation that sent the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Rams from Covenant Academy pulled away in the extra session.

The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by junior guard Ashanti Harrison who scored 14 points. Seniors Caroline Mathis and Anna Kendrick added 6 and 4 points respectively. Junior Alex McComas hit two critical free throws down the stretch that tied the game in regulation.

The Lady Eagles had an incredible run finishing with a record of 18-7. Congratulations to Coach Gary Oxendine, Asst. Coach Vincent Raven, and the entire team for a great season to remember!
