Florida Caverns Field Trip

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Butler’s fifth grade students enjoyed a field trip to the Florida Caverns in Marianna. The students have just completed a study of rocks and minerals.

The Florida Caverns is one of the few state parks with dry (air-filled) caves and is the only state park in Florida to offer cave tours to the public. The students were able to observe formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws and flowstones during their tour.

Pie in the Face

Elementary students celebrated reaching their goal for Spirit Week with a “Pie in the Face” on Friday afternoon. The elementary set a goal to raise $2,000 to purchase new water fountains at the sports complex for their outside P.E. classes. They went well over their goal by raising $2,800! Students enjoyed watching several students and teachers receive a “Pie to the Face.”

Thanks to all the families that supported this project. Elementary students will enjoy a week of “No Written Homework” this week.

Elementary Chapel – Samaritan’s Purse

Elementary students enjoyed having Mrs. Diane Proctor and Mrs. Janet Dapper speak in chapel this morning. Mrs. Proctor and Mrs. Dapper work with Samaritan’s Purse each year with the “Operation Christmas Child” project. Our elementary students will be bringing in shoe boxes packed with Christmas gifts for children in other countries. Mrs. Procter shared the “How to Pack A Shoe Box” video, but our favorite video showed the children receiving their shoe box and opening it.

Besides all the gifts, each shoe box will include a storybook telling the children about Jesus and inviting them to know Him. Many of these books will be used to touch entire communities for Christ. Fifth grade students, Alexandra Collins and Caleb Kendrick, assisted with packing a shoe box for a boy and a girl. We have our first two shoe boxes on the table that has been set up in the foyer for the many boxes that will come in. Our students were encouraged to pray over their shoe boxes and for the children that their gifts will go to. Thanks to Mrs. Proctor and Mrs. Dapper who come each year to help us with this project!

Elementary Spirit Links

In addition to Homecoming Spirit Week dress-up days and the pep rally, the elementary students participated in Spirit Week 2017 by bringing in money to buy spirit links all week. This year, our spirit link money will buy two new water fountains for outdoor PE classes.

Coach Herring and Coach Fyock want to thank the many volunteers who came in the mornings to count money and staple the spirit links. We are so very grateful for ALL your help!

We had a goal to raise $2,000 and use that money to buy two water fountains. Congratulations, elementary students! You did it! You raised $2,818! All the elementary students will receive a week of no written homework and K3-K5 will receive a popsicle party! Students in 1st-5th grade will have no written homework the week of October 30.

We also had an extremely intense competition between every grade with the spirit links!

The winners are:

3rd Place: 5th Grade

2nd Place: 4th Grade

1st Place: 3rd Grade

Third grade will receive an ice cream party for their 1st place finish this year.

And…

The grade to have the longest spirit chain is 4th Grade! They will receive our SCA School Spirit Plaque and an ice cream party! Congratulations!

A Visit from Johnny Appleseed

Elementary chapel was very special this morning. The boys and girls enjoyed a special time of praise and worship with Kristin Crosby who led our singing and then introduced our special speaker for the day. SCA students enjoyed a surprise visit from John Chapman, better known as “Johnny Appleseed.” Johnny shared with the students all about his school days, apprenticeship and how the Lord led him West to plant apple seeds and the Word of God. Thanks to Sherwood Baptist Church’s Children’s Pastor, Mark Scardino, for an awesome chapel!
