Elementary Chapel & AR Points

Elementary students enjoyed having several of our high school Student Council members in chapel on Thursday. Burch Langstaff and Nathan Roberts spoke to the students about how to be a “light” to others. The Student Council gave all of the elementary students glow sticks, and the lights were turned out to demonstrate how a small light can make a big difference, which elementary students loved.

All of the students shared about their favorite part of being on Student Council. These students are involved in numerous projects within the school and community and their desire is to spiritually impact our school. Thanks to Nathaniel Sancinito (Student Council Chaplain), Landon Davidson (10th Grade Chaplain), Ally Flynt (8th Grade Chaplain), Conner Mathis (7thGrade Chaplain), Burch (Vice President) and Nathan (9th Grade Chaplain) for taking the time to lead our chapel.

Congratulations to Mr. Sheets and the MS Math Counts Team! This past Saturday at Albany State West, Ethan Kelley, Tyler Gruber, Jacquelyn Hawkins, and Sara Campbell represented SCA at the regional Math Counts competition. They competed against area middle schools that were much larger than SCA.

The team performed very well and finished as a team in 2nd place! Ethan, Tyler, and Jacquelyn all finished in the top 8 for individual scores as well. Furthermore, Ethan Kelley finished with the second highest overall individual score and has qualified to move on to the state competition next month. Job well done “mathletes!”

MS Girls’ Basketball Team in State Championship Game

The Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team and Coaches Mark Walker and Princeton White continue their special season as they prepare to play in the GICAA state championship game this Saturday (Feb. 10) in Macon against Westminster Christian Academy (Watkinsville). The game will be played at Central Georgia Technical College at 11 AM.

The girls earned their trip to the state championship with three impressive wins in the sectional games played in Milner this past week. On Monday, they beat a very good Central Christian (Sharpsburg) team by two points thanks to a three-pointer from Joy Kendrick in the final minute of the game. Then they turned around and beat host Rock Springs Christian Academy 23-16 to move to the Final Four. Finally on Saturday, they won a hard fought game against a very talented Harvester Christian team from Douglasville near Atlanta by a score of 28-26. The win brings their record to 11-1 with their only loss of the season coming on the road at Brookwood School.

Please pray for their effort and performance as they prepare for the big game this week!

Members of the team include:

Middle School Banquet

The Middle School Banquet is an annual event sponsored by the junior class. This past Saturday evening more than 70 middle school students had the opportunity to dress up and meet at Newman’s Restaurant to spend an evening with friends, and we even had some arriving by limo.

The students enjoyed a fantastic meal and then a time of fun games, including Bunco.  One highlight of the evening was a competition between the tables to see who knew the most interesting facts about our junior class. The eighth grade class were the winners.  The students received a myriad of different door prizes from devotionals and hats to restaurant gift cards and Fun Park passes. Overall, the night was a huge success and the juniors are very appreciative to all who participated and made the evening possible.

Great Turkey Race Blesses the Lord’s Pantry

The SCA Family was able to bless the Lord’s Pantry this Thanksgiving in a huge way! The final numbers are in for the 2017 Great Turkey Race: 2000 canned food items and $5350! What a blessing to tangibly meet needs in our community through our month-long Great Turkey Race.

According to the Lord’s Pantry Director, Mr. Tom Wilburn, “The SCA donations will go a long way in helping us provide for the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. We could not accomplish our mission without the support and contributions from compassionate Christians like your SCA faculty and students.”

A special thanks to Student Council sponsors Mrs. Tiffany Carter and Ms. Cheryl Thompson for leading an awesome group of student council members throughout this important drive.

Congratulations to the 7th grade and 9th grade classes for being the first place winners in their respective buildings. These classes along with the sophomores and seniors met their class goals for the drive and earned a free Jeans Week before Christmas break. Thanks to everyone who made The Great Turkey Race a huge success this year!

Middle School Math Team Competes

gicaa math competition

Four members of the 8th Grade Honors Algebra class–Ethan Kelley, Caroline Dougherty, Marci Scardino, and Victoria Vega–represented SCA at the inaugural GICAA Middle School State Math Competition held at Grace Fellowship in Greensboro, GA, on Monday. They competed against 12 other schools in our association.

The 2-hour competition included 6 rounds of math problems of varying degrees of difficulty that the teams had to complete together and submit to judges within a given time frame. Three rounds consisted of multi-step problems that required a correct answer in the preceding problem to used in the next step.

Ultimately, our team finished in 6th place out of 13 teams. When asked about their experience, one team member said, “It was really hard but I had a lot of fun doing it with my classmates.” A special thanks to Mr. Sheets for helping get them ready to compete. Congratulations to this year’s Middle School Math Team.

Veterans’ Day Program

SCA hosted its 15th annual Veteran’s Day program at Sherwood Baptist Church. We were blessed to have many veterans in attendance today.

The program included different student groups including the elementary students, a 5th grade ensemble, and the middle school choir singing patriotic songs and other pieces to honor our veterans. Of course, we enjoyed our kindergarteners presenting Grand Old Flag and America the Beautiful for us.

Lastly, we honored our service men and women with a solemn flag folding ceremony and the reading of a list of local fallen heroes. We were delighted to have special guest Bishop Ingram who eloquently whistled God Bless America for us. It was truly a blessed day.

May we all be grateful for the service of many veterans and active duty personnel for the freedoms that we enjoy. Be sure to thank a veteran today for his/her service to our country.
