Girls Soccer Wins SCA Tournament

under the cross 2018

Congratulations to the Varsity Soccer Lady Eagles for winning the 2018 Under The Cross Tournament this weekend! The tournament included 12 girls’ teams from throughout the state. They defeated the HALO team from Athens 2-0 to claim first place. The girls earned the title by defeating Central Georgia then tied Robert Toombs Academy on Friday, then defeated Calvary and HALO on Saturday. They finished the tournament 3-0-1.

They had their greatest test in the semi-finals against a determined Calvary team. After leading 1-0 at half, Calvary tied the match and it went into overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to PKs. Each team scored their first four PKS. The match would be determined on the fifth kicks. Junior Hannah Huckaby was successful on our fifth kick while freshmen keeper Natalie Brock blocked the fifth penalty kick from Calvary! It was an exciting match!

The varsity boys soccer team competed against 14 other boys’ teams from throughout Georgia. They reached the semi-finals and lost to a strong HALO team. They finished the weekend 2-2-0.

Thanks to the Lord for a great weekend with good weather. A special thanks to all of our parent volunteers who made this tournament possible. It is a privilege to host the largest high school soccer tournament in the state. We can’t do it without the help of such great parents!

MS Girls’ Basketball Team in State Championship Game

The Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team and Coaches Mark Walker and Princeton White continue their special season as they prepare to play in the GICAA state championship game this Saturday (Feb. 10) in Macon against Westminster Christian Academy (Watkinsville). The game will be played at Central Georgia Technical College at 11 AM.

The girls earned their trip to the state championship with three impressive wins in the sectional games played in Milner this past week. On Monday, they beat a very good Central Christian (Sharpsburg) team by two points thanks to a three-pointer from Joy Kendrick in the final minute of the game. Then they turned around and beat host Rock Springs Christian Academy 23-16 to move to the Final Four. Finally on Saturday, they won a hard fought game against a very talented Harvester Christian team from Douglasville near Atlanta by a score of 28-26. The win brings their record to 11-1 with their only loss of the season coming on the road at Brookwood School.

Please pray for their effort and performance as they prepare for the big game this week!

Stantravious Smith Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone!

stan milestone

Tuesday night, senior Stantravious Smith was honored in front of his home crowd before taking on Covenant Academy for reaching the 1,000 point milestone for his basketball playing career at SCA. He reached it the previous Friday versus John Hancock Academy at the Fullington Christmas Tournament.

What is astounding is that Smith reached this impressive milestone in just 34 games as an Eagle (junior year and one-third of senior year). Currently, he is averaging just over 29 points a game at a clip of 58%. Additionally, he shoots 75% from the free throw line, has accumulated 73 three-pointers, and averages 10 rebounds a game in his career. Smith is on pace to set many SCA records before his playing career is over. Congratulations to senior Stantravious Smith!

Cross Country Teams Run in State

The boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams ran in the GICAA state cross country meet in Macon on Saturday. Each team came into the meet with strong region finishes a week ago.

The girls’ team finished 2nd overall by 5 points to a talented Westminster Christian Academy team. Congratulations to 8th grader Joy Kendrick for finishing 1st and earning the title of individual state champion! Her sister Anna Kendrick finished in 4th place to earn all-state honors! Other teammates competing included Victoria Vega, Alexis Kelley, Olivia Williams, Catherine Kendrick, and Caroline Mathis. Today’s 2nd place team finish mirrors last year’s runner-up title for the team which is an incredible accomplishment. With no seniors on the roster, next year is looking very promising!

The boys’ team finished 4th overall just 6 points out of 2nd place. Freshman Collin Phillips finished in 7th place to earn all-state honors! Other teammates competing included Jordan Roberts, Nathaniel Sancinto, Nicolo Galiano, Nathan Roberts, Carter Ricker, and Ethan Kelley. Like the girls’ team, there are no seniors on the roster so next season should be great!

I Believe That We Just Won

On Friday, November 21st, the Eagles took on the Calvary Christian Academy Knights for the inaugural GICAA Division 1-AA State Championship title. There was a record crowd in attendance to watch the Eagles play for their first state championship. The Eagles held off the Knights 21-13 in the 4th quarter to take home the trophy.

The team’s record at the end of the season was 11-1. It was an honor to be a part of the inaugural season of the GICAA, a conference where sportsmanship and character rise above competition.
